 Summary

This course is designed for those interested in powerboats, sailing vessels or kayaks.   You will receive in depth boat operation and safety training and experience the challenge of plotting and navigation.   The course is not intended to be difficult or time consuming, but those taking it should be prepared to spend some time doing homework.

Passing the accredited midterm exam will allow you to receive your Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), which is required by ALL operators of power drive pleasure craft by September 15th 2009.   Passing the final Boating Course exam will enable you to join the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron and receive membership benefits including discounted boat insurance.

The course is taught in three evenings. The first evening is a lecture covering sections one to five below. The second evening is an oral drill covering the material in section 6. For this session, the class broken into small groups with about six students per instructor. The final session is the official exam. It consists of a fifty question multiple choice exam.

The is a basic course is taught in three evenings, and is an introduction to boating. The first and second evening are lectures covering sections below. The final session is the official exam. It consists of a fifty question multiple choice exam.

Upon successful completion of the exam on the third evening, the student will be issued a temparory PCOC CPS will later mail a permanent certificate to the student.

The course will cover many of the significant aspects of the formation and behavior of the weather around us. Meteorology - or the scientific study of the principles of weather - can be somewhat technical. This course has been presented in a straightforward form which has eliminated much of the technical "jargon", while retaining the essence of the material.
