Pleasure Craft Operators Card (PCOC)

 

Why should you get one of these?

Consider the following.........

Operators of powered vessels will be required to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card showing
proof of competency and to carry it with them at all times while operating a powered boat.
 
 
There are now age and horsepower restrictions to operate a vessel.
 
 
As of September 15, 1999, any operator of a powered vessel who was born after April 1, 1983 is
required to show proof of competency. Some age and horsepower restrictions apply.
 
 
As of September 15, 2002, operators of powered vessels under 4 meters in length, including personal
watercraft, are required to show proof of competency.
 
 
As of September 15, 2009, all operators of powered vessels are required to show proof of competency.
 
 
Persons under 16 years are prohibited from operating a PWC (Jet Ski).
 
 
Renters of powered vessels are now required to complete a dockside checklist as proof of competency.
 
 
A fine is charged against both the operator and the vessel owner for failure to follow the new
regulations.
 
 
The first offence will cost the operator AND the owner $250 each.
